You have 4 tag options for attempting to extend players on expiring contracts and 1 option for extending a player that does not require an expiring contract:
1. Franchise Tag
2. 1st Round Tag
3. 2nd Round Tag
4. 3rd Round Tag
5. Extension Tag
N.2 Franchise Tag (FT)
a) The Franchise tag can only be used on one player per team/season.
b) A player can only be Franchise Tagged one time per team.
c) The cost to franchise tag a player is 120 GB's.
d) If you franchise a player, you will automatically get to retain his services and give him any length (1-6 yr) contract you wish. There is no bidding on Franchise tagged players.
N.3 1st Round Tag
a) The 1st Round Tag can be used on one player per team/season.
b) The cost of a 1st Round tag is 70 GB's.
c) If you do not match the highest bid on your 1st Round tagged player, the compensation is a 1st round rookie draft pick for the current year. If a team has a pick for the current year that team must use the current year pick as compensation. If a team does not have a 1st round pick this year, a 1st round pick for next years draft is acceptable.
d) If a team has multiple same round picks (ie, 1.01, 1.04, and 1.10), the team giving up the compensation can choose which draft pick to use as compensation.
e) The compensation must be stated with each and every bid for the bid to be legal. Failure to submit the compensation information makes the bids null and void.
N.4 2nd Round Tag
a) The 2nd Round Tag can be used on 1 player per team/season.
b) The cost of a 2nd Round Tag on a player is 35 GB's

a) The 3rd Round Tag can be used on 1 player per team/season.
b) The cost of a 3rd Round Tag on a player is 25 GB's
c) If you do not match the highest bid on your 2nd Round tagged player, the compensation is a 3rd round rookie draft pick for the current year. b) The cost to extend a contract is 20 GB's.
c) This tag does not need to be used on an expiring contract.
d) Once a player has been extended, his contract status will be updated with an 'E' to represent 'extension.'
Escalator Clause:
a) If an extension is given to the same person in consecutive years, the GB cost will increase by 50% of the previous years price.
b) This escalator remains with the player even if he has changed teams.
It is up to owners to know the status of players on their team as well as the ones they are trading for and there is no rule that a team has to disclose this information when trading a player away. It is also not the job of the President to notify someone of this fact when a trade occurs.
